Make sure you're specifying an actual device that exists on the system. Chances are that you don't have a pif named "_tmp", but you might have one named "_tmp" with a bunch of numbers after it.

I have this issue and tried the first command to get the uuid of the device. When i run the command "xe pif-list device=_tmp" I don't get a response or anything, so I cannot make these changes.

Any thoughts?

Nice! First check that you haven't assigned any VMs to this device, or else you get the error: Network has active VIFs. Other than that, works like a charm.
